The Ghats of Varanasi

This travelogue is about my visit to the beautiful city of Varanasi also called as Kashi and Banaras, it is situated on the banks of river Ganges. In the summers of 2013 I had an academic commitment which took me to Varanasi. Kashi is believed to be the royal abode of Lord Shiva. The name Varanasi is said to be originated from two rivers Varuna and Assi. Varanasi is known as the cultural capital of India and is famous for its temples all around the city, Ghats, sarees, etc.

It was my first all alone travel experience afresh in my mind till today. I took a train to reach the Varanasi Junction railway station one of the busiest railway stations in India. It was early afternoon by the time I reached the lodge at Bhelupur for a three day stay as planned. By the end of the day when the Sun was closing towards the end of its journey I geared up for the visit to the Ghats of Varanasi which was a walking distance from the lodge I checked in for my stay.

Varanasi Junction Railway Station as viewed from the outside.

Small lane or Gully of Varanasi guiding travelers to the Ghats.
These lanes have many things to adore from temples, shops and houses as well.

Taking a boat ride is the best way to enjoy the beautiful view of all Ghats.

The Ghats are spread over a distance of around 7 km on the banks of river Ganges.

For a cricket crazy nation the availability of a playground was never a problem.

Preparations before the evening rituals of Ganges Aarti.

Strong winds causing dust storm on the opposite bank of the river Ganges.

Mesmerizing Ganga Aarti on the banks of the river Ganges.

The Ghats at the sunset in the dazzling lights.

A crossroad’s view at night from my lodge.

Just a few moments later when the world has gone to sleep.

A journey towards eternal peace, a point where both life and death meets, the gateway to salvation of a burdened soul, the royal palace of my Lord Shiva - The Ghats of Varanasi

  1. Its Really a fascinating collection of Pictures Anil...
I personally feel that Every Hindu shall once in a lifetime visit Kashi/ Banaras...

On a Humorous Note I say that:

Aapko koi Jar ya Matki mein Kashi ya Haridwar lekar jaaye... Us se pehle aap khud jaa kar Darshan kar ke aayiye.... Jeete ji Mukti ka anubhav ho jaayega.....

    But I personally believe k

Har Har Mahadev....Har Har Gange.....ki Goonj se jab vatavarn vismit ho jata hai tab ek atulya anand ki anubhuti hai....

Mera ek sapna hai.... Bharat ke sabhi Teerh sthal mere parents ko ghuma paun....

Mahadev se Yehi vinanti hai ki jald mere sapne ko pura karne mein madad kare....

    Har Har Mahadev...
